Happy Birthday, Bailey! A Treat For Our Pup

Peanut Butter Pupcake

Six years ago on August 11, this bundle of joy joined the world! It’s hard to believe that our Bailey is already six years old – time really got a case of the zoomies on us.

Each year, we do something special with Bailey on her birthday like make yummy treats, get new toys, or go somewhere fun.

I can still remember Bailey’s first birthday like it was yesterday… Bailey’s Mimi and Pops came over to celebrate both Bailey and her sister Nike, who share the same birthday because they're litter sisters.

Fun fact: Bailey’s Mimi and Pops are actually the pet parents to Bailey’s sister, Nike. So, technically – Bailey’s sister is also her aunt?

Anyway, back to the story! On their first birthday, Bailey and Nike played to their hearts’ content at the local dog park, and then came back home for some freshly made peanut butter pupcakes.

When I first went on the hunt for a pet-friendly recipe for Bailey’s birthday, I knew I wanted to keep it simple. Why? Well, I'm not ashamed to admit that I am no wizard in the kitchen... but I can dutifully follow recipe instructions.

So, when I came across this Grain-Free Peanut Butter Apple Doggy Cake recipe from Spoonful of Sugar Free – I was doggone thrilled!

The recipe calls for just four common ingredients, which you probably already have in your pantry:

  • Eggs
  • Peanut Butter
  • Apples
  • Baking Powder

Bailey and Nike pawsitively loved the pupcakes, and they couldn’t have been easier to make. So, this year we decided to bake them again – in honor of Bailey’s birthday and the launch of Dear Bailey.

And if we’re being honest here, we may have even tried a bite ourselves this time around, and we have to say… not too shabby!

You can find the full recipe for these tasty peanut butter apple pupcakes on the Spoonful of Sugar Free blog.

If you plan to make these for a fun little photo opp, here's a tip: add a festive candle to the pupcake, but don't actually light it. That way – you can incorporate an extra cute element to the picture, while keeping your fur baby safe (and for even more fun, we suggest using the Birthday Girl or Boy Collar Dot!).

As always, if you’re trying out a new recipe for your fur baby, we recommend reaching out to your veterinarian first to make sure it’s safe.

Does your fur baby have a favorite homemade treat? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
